Some of you may have spotted on social media that we’ve launched a new parliamentary petition! We’re calling on the government to fund proper, targeted support for children who have a parent with a mental illness. Our petition also asks for a requirement on local authorities to provide this service.
Until now we have been collecting signatures via our Change.org petition. However we’ve made the decision to move to a parliamentary one as we feel it has greater potential for influence. If we can reach 10,000 signatures we’re guaranteed a response from the government; if we can reach 100,00 our petition will be considered for a debate in parliament. More than 5,000 had signed our previous petition so we’re confident we can reach that and beyond!
We need the government to act because so many children living with parental mental illness are falling through the cracks. They face unique challenges but there is no policy to provide specific support for them. They need to be recognised, and offered the right help to ensure they can develop the resilience and strength to go on to live full lives.
Please take a moment to sign our petition – by doing so, you can make a real difference to the lives of children who have a parent with a mental illness.
