Silver for Our Time at the Charity Film Awards!

What a night for Our Time – we are absolutely delighted that our animation The Perfect Ice Cream won a silver in our category at the Charity Film Awards!

Our Time’s CEO Dympna Cunnane, Lead Designer Owen Roach, and two of our workshop leaders Kathryn Ferguson and Catherine Hanley were all there to receive the award – along with actor Cristian Solimeno who provided the voice for Ollie in the film. It was a fantastic night on the red carpet at London’s Leicester Square, with stars including comedian Ronnie Ancona.

The Perfect Ice Cream was up against some tough competition from other charities in the category including Age UK Westminster and The Paperweight Trust – huge congratulations to them for winning gold, and to the Cot Death Trust for their bronze award.

But being part of the Charity Film Awards is, in reality, about so much more than winning on the night. It’s about reaching as many people as possible to tell them about the challenges, stigma and isolation faced by many children who have a parent with a mental illness. Thanks to media coverage, the awards reach nearly 500 million people around the world. So it’s been a fantastic boost for Our Time to be involved, knowing that our message of compassion and openness is reaching ever-wider audiences. At the start of the campaign, The Perfect Ice Cream had been viewed 1,000 times – now that number has jumped to an incredible 145,000!

Animation still of Maria at the ice cream vanThe Perfect Ice Cream is an animation that addresses the stigma and isolation faced by many children who have a parent with a mental illness. By sharing his own experience, Ollie the ice-cream man encourages a young customer to confront her own prejudices about mental illness. The film grew out of a lengthy process of discussion and consultation with the young people Our Time supports – all of whom have lived with parental mental illness.
