Our Time has received a revenue grant of £60,000 over three years from the City Bridge Trust, the City of London Corporation’s charity funder.
The funds allow the charity to support its ongoing work with young carers of parents with mental health issues.
It will be a vital lifeline for the charity who ensure these young people are given early support to help build resilience and break the intergenerational cycle of mental illness through their family and in-schools programmes.
Dympna Cunnane, Our Time CEO says: “I am delighted to announce this funding which will help the charity to support vulnerable families during this very difficult time and into the future. Over the next 3 years, we will be able to build our capacity to reach hundreds more families and young people in London, who live with mental illness. We know from experience how much difference it makes to have the support we offer through the local KidsTime Workshops and in schools.”
This quote is from a grandparent who takes her granddaughter to a KidsTime Workshop:
“The more she learns, it helps to answer some of the questions she might have; it helps with communicating. It also helps me in making me more aware of my daughter’s illness; I can tell if she’s not well and when I might need to shield Jana more.”
Dhruv Patel, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s City Bridge Trust Committee, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support Our Time to build on the vital work it already does and to help hundreds more children and young people across London.
“Being a carer for a parent with mental health issues is not easy and it’s vital these young people are given the support, the skills and the coping strategies they need to boost their resilience, confidence and self-esteem.”
